Finding the Right Learning Equation: Balancing Pedagogy and Technology in Today's Classroom
Today's students use technology in their everyday lives, and as educators we often think of technology as a way to engage our students. However, today's instructors face many challenges in successfully integrating technology into their classroom environment. Challenges range from finding the right balance between technology and pedagogy to discovering ways to conquer the digital divide. Instructors may even ask themselves; Should my students be "plugged-in or unplugged" in my course for the best learning experience? This interactive session will help participants determine the right learning equation by identifying their student's digital literacy, linking technology tools to a pedagogical purpose and assessing the right balance between technology and pedagogy for their courses.

A Closer Look at the TEKS
What is guiding your instruction? As teachers, we BELIEVE that we know our TEKS…but the reality is that most of us have not had the opportunity to truly unpack and understand them. To implement instruction that is aligned to our state standards, teachers must have the tools to understand the parts and functions of the TEKS - especially since we all have new ones this year! Character or Skills? What do Employers Want Most?
Our informal research indicates that employers overwhelmingly value character over skills or knowledge, being the number one reason for termination and the most difficult area to develop. It seems that P-20 education does not reflect this priority of character over skill and knowledge. This session explores a framework for character, an education delivery in higher ed, and possible extensions into K-12.

Cradle to Career: Speaking a Common Lingo
Many students advance through high school and into a post-secondary situation still uncertain of their pathway into a career. This indecision may derive less from a lack of career information or guidance and more from the lack of a coherent, consistent lingo that reinforces career relevance throughout their educational years. This presentation invites all stakeholders in student success to focus on this consistency of message, including the language from HB5 - Endorsements, Pathways, and Career Clusters, across all educational institutions from K-16. As we move out of our language silos into consistent communities of practice, and spend more time listening to our business and industry partners share their needs and expectations for our graduates, our students can have more relevant, real world experiences in the classroom, and benefit from a smoother transition from education to career!

The Impact of Coherent CTE Course Sequence Participation on Student Discipline Outcomes
Disproportionalities in school discipline that cannot be accounted for by differential behavior exist for children of color and those in other marginalized categories. A possible solution to the issue of ineffective discipline systems and exclusionary practices causing the disparities occurring in traditional high school discipline is involvement in CTE. The purpose of the study, therefore, is to determine the impact that participation in a coherent sequence of CTE courses has on various student discipline outcomes, specifically referrals, detentions, and suspensions. To examine the potential relationship, I utilize t-tests to determine if an association exists between coherent CTE course sequence participation and student discipline outcomes. I find that students in a coherent sequence of CTE courses receive fewer referrals and detentions than students not enrolled in a coherent CTE course sequence. The target audience for the presentation include educators, policymakers, and researchers. No participant involvement is necessary.

So. Much. Tech. #AugmentedRealityLearningExperiences The real world is not flat after all, so why constrain our classrooms to experience the digital world on a flat screen? The shift from 2D to 3D is as natural as was adding color to movies and television in the 1950’s. In many ways, it is even more impactful. Virtual and Augmented Reality is changing education. What started out as something that was simply “cool” has become a way to engage learners like never before. Join us to experience ten different virtual reality classroom activities including an Oculus Rift and HoloLens!
